About the Role

Based in the busy industrial hub of Pinkenba, this role requires a highly motivated individual with the ability to conduct the key responsibilities of the role and experience requirements as outlined below.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work Scheduling - Oversee and be responsible for scheduling all work through the department, ensuring tasks are completed within required turnaround times and aligned with production schedules.
  • Team Leadership - Provide effective supervision of the team, delegating work to highly skilled staff to optimise workflow and ensure departmental objectives are achieved.
  • Quality Assurance - Maintain high standards of work quality by ensuring adherence to all quality procedures and implementing rigorous quality control measures.
  • Safety & Compliance - Ensure all employees, contractors, and visitors comply with WHS legislation, HSE policies, and company procedures. Communicate safety principles clearly and implement initiatives that promote a safe working environment.
  • Performance Management - Monitor staff performance to ensure duties are performed efficiently, addressing issues promptly to maintain high productivity and labour utilisation.
  • Leading Hand Oversight- Lead and develop the team through Leading Hands, overseeing area performance, recognizing strong performers, and coaching those who require further development.
  • Operational Coordination - Liaise with other department supervisors and the Operations Manager regarding operational issues, ensuring timely resolution and smooth cross‑departmental coordination.
  • Training & Development - Identify and follow up on staff training requirements to ensure employees are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Production & Maintenance Oversight - Oversee repairs and maintenance of all department equipment and plant, ensuring reliability and operational readiness.
  • Continuous Improvement - Promote and drive continual improvement by identifying opportunities for enhancement and implementing effective solutions, including lean manufacturing principles.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Alignment - Ensure products and services are delivered consistently with customer requirements and provide value to all stakeholders.
  • Work Order & Cost Control - Manage estimated work orders, communicate variations, and determine target hours to ensure customer expectations are met and inefficiencies are addressed.
  • Meetings & Communication - Conduct and contribute to daily, weekly, and supervisory meetings, including ‘Right to Start’ sessions, ensuring productive and organised communication.
  • Inventory & Consumables Management - Manage ordering and inventory of workshop consumables, assessing usage, placing orders, and monitoring stock levels to ensure uninterrupted production support.
  • Reporting & Accountability – Maintain a clear reporting rhythm across daily, weekly and monthly cycles, covering production progress, roadblocks, spend, and team capability to support informed decision making.
  • General Duties - Perform ad‑hoc duties and projects as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Supervisory Experience - Previous supervisory experience, ideally within mining, heavy engineering, maintenance services, or heavy earth‑moving industries.
  • Trade Qualifications - Relevant trade qualifications are essential.
  • Project Management - qualifications in Project Management (preferred).
  • High‑Risk Licences - High‑risk forklift licence, Rigger and Dogman (preferred).
  • Technical Competence - Strong computer literacy, including MS Office and other relevant systems; general administration capability.
  • Team & Communication Skills - Ability to inspire confidence, coach others, and communicate effectively at all organisational levels.
  • Decision‑Making & Time Management - Strong decision‑making ability, time management, and organisational skills.
  • Safety Leadership - Demonstrated knowledge of, and commitment to, Occupational Health & Safety legislation and requirements.
