A well-established industrial business is seeking a hands-on Operations Manager to drive day-to-day site activities at its Mackay Harbour site. This is not an office-based leadership role - you’ll be on the ground, working alongside the team to keep product moving safely and efficiently.

About the Company:

Haynes is part of a large family of companies, and we pride ourselves on the fact that we can offer solutions to our customers. We believe that people do amazing things and surround ourselves with people who are as committed as us to providing a safe and highly productive working environment for our employees.

The Role

This is a highly practical, boots-on-the-ground role where you’ll be actively involved in every aspect of site operations. You’ll roll up your sleeves and work alongside the team - whether that’s maintenance and servicing of plant, operating machinery, or pitching in with physical labour to ensure product goes out the door.

While you’ll oversee site operations, safety, and performance, your success in this role will come from leading by example on the ground, not from behind a desk.

What’s On Offer:

  • Permanent, full‑time role in Mackay
  • 7:00am-3:30pm, Monday to Friday (overtime required during peak season)
  • Salary up to $110k + super
  • Fully maintained company vehicle

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be hands-on in daily operations of the Mackay Depot, assisting with plant operation, maintenance, and labouring as required
  • Lead warehouse and bulk handling activities to ensure product is received, stored, and dispatched on time and to standard
  • Operate and support the use of equipment such as batching/blending systems, conveyors, loaders, and forklifts
  • Act as the on‑site WHSE lead, embedding safety requirements into daily work and maintaining a strong safety culture
  • Oversee and participate in maintenance and servicing of plant, equipment and facilities to minimise downtime
  • Assist with bulk handling, loading/unloading, and general yard duties as needed
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics, ensuring stock accuracy and timely issue resolution
  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance site efficiency and reliability
  • Manage site administration, maintaining accurate operational, safety, and environmental records
  • Work closely with internal teams, contractors, and logistics partners to meet service expectations
  • Deliver outcomes aligned with budget, capital, and performance targets while supporting a strong service reputation

About You:

  • Current Driver’s Licence and Forklift Licence (required)
  • Front-End Loader Ticket (highly regarded)
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Proven experience in a hands-on operations, production, or bulk handling environment
  • Comfortable working in a physically demanding role and leading from the front
  • Experience with batching/blending equipment, conveyors, loaders, or forklifts highly regarded
  • Background in cement, concrete, sugar, fertiliser, or similar industries strongly preferred
  • Sound understanding of WHSE, risk management, and compliance obligations
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Good computer and administrative capability (Microsoft Office and operational systems)
  • Ability to work outside standard hours when required

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys being out in the yard, not stuck in an office - a leader who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and do whatever it takes to keep operations running.

If you’re looking for a leadership role where you can truly make an impact day-to-day, we’d like to hear from you.

At Haynes, we keep things simple: We back the talent of our people and land the jobs that best suit their needs. Secure your future, get in touch with Haynes and cast your net wider.
