Leading Hand - Diesel Fitter

Haynes are currently seeking both a Workshop Leading Hand and a Diesel Mechanic to join our valued client located in Mackay QLD.

• Diesel Mechanic/Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

Workshop Leading Hand

About the Job:

• Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturday shifts
• Hands-on leadership role in a workshop environment
• Temp to perm opportunity

Requirements:

• Trade qualification: Diesel Mechanic, HV Mechanic, or similar
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in heavy vehicle or engine-related industries
• Strong working knowledge of Western Star, MAN, MTU, Dennis Eagle, Detroit Diesel, and Allison products
• Proven experience leading or mentoring a mechanical team
• HR Licence or willingness to obtain
• Current Driver’s Licence

Responsibilities:

• Lead and mentor mechanics and apprentices across all skill levels
• Oversee day-to-day operations including diagnosis, servicing, and repairs
• Drive productivity, quality, and efficiency within the workshop
• Support workshop leadership with timekeeping, job reports, and team coordination
• Maintain high standards of safety and workmanship

Diesel Mechanic

About the Job:

• Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, with overtime available
• Opportunity to work on a variety of vehicles including Western Star, MAN trucks, and buses
• Potential progression into civil, field, and mining work
• Temp to perm opportunity

Requirements:

• Mechanical experience on highway trucks preferred, but candidates with exposure to medium-sized trucks (Mitsubishi, Fuso, Isuzu, etc.) will also be considered

• Trade qualified
• Must hold a valid driver’s licence and have reliable transport
• Ability to pass a Drug and Alcohol Screen
• PPE Required: High-vis long sleeve shirt, long pants, and steel cap boots
