Haynes currently have an opportunity for a Grounds Person & Barrier Attendant position to work alongside our client located in Mackay.

Barrier Attendant Role

About the Role:

  • Load horses into barriers efficiently within a 2-minute window
  • Ensure the safety of jockeys by checking and refitting riding equipment as needed
  • Move rails and barriers as required
  • Perform various ad-hoc duties as requested

About the Offer:

  • Ad-Hoc (Race Days: Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri & Sat, approx. 25 races yearly),
    • Generally a 5/hr Shift in the week of the race being held.

About You:

  • Current Drivers Licence & Reliable Transport for Commuting to work
  • Valid Rights to Work in Australia
  • Physically fit to pass a Pre-Employment Medical & D&A Screening, where required
  • Ability to work quickly and under pressure
  • Strong awareness and decision-making skills to handle unpredictable horses
  • Physical fitness to manage horses and move barriers and rails
  • Experience with horses is advantageous but not required

Grounds Person Role

About the Role:

  • General ground maintenance tasks such as whipper snipping, patching tracks after race days, rolling divots, and spreading topsoil.
  • Operating mowers and other vehicles on site as needed.
  • Working autonomously and performing ad-hoc duties as required, usually following race days.
  • Maintaining a safe work environment in line with company policies.

About You:

  • Flexible to working when requested
  • Previous groundskeeping experience preferred.
  • Physically fit to handle manual tasks, such as spreading topsoil and lifting railings.
  • Able to work effectively in hot and humid conditions.
  • Must hold a current Driver’s Licence and have reliable transport to and from work.
  • Ability to work autonomously and maintain a safe work environment.
